Drawing people

People are fascinating to draw but it is quite challenging to get correct posture, mood and character at the same time.. the ultimate truth to achieve above all is practice.. practice... and more practice😄

Love for Himalayas

Image
Love for Himalayas Writing after a long gap.... I, along with my family, visited very small, quaint towns (Kalpa, Rakchham and Chhitkul) in the Himalayas. It was a much needed break after two years of COVID lockdown.  The journey was quite tiring as we travelled from Delhi to Shimla the day before we reached to Kalpa. Sutlaj river was accompanying us along the route. A big power project of JSW is being built at the confluence of Sutlaj and Baspa river. Finally we reached to Kalpa crossing turns of mountains and the twists of Sutlaj. Kalpa is a picturesque town in Sangla Valley offering a mesmerising view of Kinnaur Kailash range. One day trek to Chaka Meadows through apple orchards is a good option for trek lovers if the time permits. (Plein air at Kalpa) Living in that dream town for 3 days we reached to our next halt Rakchham 2 1/2 hours away from Kalpa. Rakchham offers totally different views of Himalaya. We were staying at the base of Shoshla mountain which is considered as the tou

Gardens in Pune

Image
Gardens in Pune Summer mornings are refreshing in our city... March is the season of spring and you get to see new lemonish yellow  leaves sprouting and colorful flowers blooming everywhere.. this month I explored gardens near me to capture that crisp light before it gets too harsh and the beauty of spring on my paper.. I couldn't do justice to the scenery but attempted to catch those moments.. soft morning light falling on the ground creating long shadows and filtering through leaves making them shine bright..some dense trees making dark canopy above but early morning light still paasing in between the trunks and another piece of composition is formed just in front of your eyes.. so much more to explore around..no need to travel far... for now😊..........

Tulshibag Raam Mandir Wada

Image
Tulshibag Raam Mandir Wada Posting after a long time... Last month we visited Tulshibag Ram Mandir cosecutively on two weekends.. What can I say about this place? Its a very old temple of lord Raam surrounded by an old two-three storey houses (typically called wada in local language). I don't know much about the history but it must have been built during Peshwa era around 18th century.. I have fond childhood memories of this temple but as I started sketching I actually noticed so much beauty in and around it. This place is surrounded by small shops famously known as tulshibag and adjacent to it is another architectural beauty - mandai (vegetable market). Amidst all this chaos you feel so peaceful and quiet as soon as you enter the premises of this temple. First two paintings are done on the spot and rest are done afterwards at home from photos. Quite happy with both the outcomes :))

Fergusson College

Image
Fergusson College main building and amphitheatre We, group of plein air painters go out for painting on sunday mornnings... The Second painting is done on the spot and the rest are done afterwards from photos...

Gokhale Institute

Image
In spite of located in the prime hub of the city Gokhale Institute of politics and economics has maintained its unique pictureseque Campus. The above painting is of the bunglow of Gopal krishna Gokhale who was the founder of the same. This institute is known to be the oldest research and trainting centre in the country. Many eminent personalities like gopal ganesh agharkar, Mahatma gandhi, Tilak used to visit this place for imp. discusssions. This one is another building in the same campus with mixture of old and new architecture. Even though there was somewhat disappointment with the fusion but I was getting nice graphical composition with plain white patch and leafless branches of trees in front.

Plants for today

Image
A quick sketch of plants in the corner of my balcony is what I could manage to do for today. Nice  soft light falling on plants was making interesting shadow patterns on the floor. Maybe I could have shown that pattern more by shifting pot's placement little bit upward but never mind this subject always acts as a backup when there is little time to paint or confusion of what to paint today!
